A Journey Through Time

Southdown Motor Services (post 1969)

With the inception of the National Bus Company, few would have believed that such radical changes with regard to livery, fleetname and operating methods would take so long.

As a young person observing the gradual dismantling of a once great and respected bus and coach operator, I was dismayed to see the imposition of uniformity, the removal of ‘local’ corporate personality.

For a number of years from the mid-70s, I tried to take as many photographic images of this long and gradual changeover period (usually during school and then college holidays).

These images do not represent a comprehensive record of this period, but are my own personal recollections of what it was like prior to the even greater destruction of the Company in later years.
